A new children's sermon and links to one on Sunday's Gospel!

New Children's Sermon!

Hello my friend!

My new children's sermon is on the "Parable of the Wheat and the Weeds" or "Wheat and Tares" depending on the translation you use. I love the story, and it's an important one in the history of the Church -- there's a link to the relevant Monday Meditation in the post.

This parable is really an important one. It has so much to say about why the world is the way it is. We struggle, so many of us, with the presence of evil in the world. Some see it close at hand in our close relationships, neighborhoods and churches. Some see it in the global scene, with injustice, authoritarianism, disease, and ecological destruction.

Jesus tells us of his kingdom here: a kingdom where the one in charge (the farmer of the parable) is slow to act by the judgment of his workers, but patient to avoid harm and maximize good. It's not an easy thing to see and name, or to really feel sometimes. But it does affirm the goodness and providence of God despite all appearances.

I'm just getting used to my new email service, so didn't actually even notice the social media links at the bottom till today. A number of people clicked on them, surely finding they went nowhere. I've now tried to link them to my Facebook and Twitter accounts. We'll see if it works! If you follow me there it is just swell -- though I've not been very active for a long while.

Thank you always for reading what I write! It means so much to me.

Blessings,

Gary

My Advent Class on Lectio Divina! Hello my friend! At some point (maybe last week, maybe several years ago) you signed up on my site, GaryNealHansen.com to be notified when I launch online prayer classes. I've just re-launched my Advent class and wanted you to be the first to know. Lectio Divina in Advent I first developed this course in 2016. I had written the little book in the picture. It's a modern introduction to the classic Christian practice known as "lectio divina" or "divine...

New Children's Sermon! Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots Game (CC by Laurie Shaull-SA 4.0) Hello my friend! I was traveling to Gettysburgh, Pennsylvania last week, speaking to a seminary student group and doing a retreat day for a clergy group. Alas, as a result I didn't get you a children's sermon. But here we are in a brand new week, and I bring you one on Sunday's Gospel text. Matthew 20:1-16 is a fascinating parable about God's generosity -- which in conflict with our sense that some should get...

New Children's Sermon! Rock 'Em Sock 'Em Robots Game (CC by Laurie Shaull-SA 4.0) Hello my friend! Between vacation and other summer things, I ended up taking the month of August off from blogging. Thanks for your patience! Just in time for Sunday I have a new children's sermon for you. There's a link to the older "Monday Meditation" on the same Gospel passage inside the post. It's Matthew 18:15-20, a classic text that has guided the Church for centuries on matters of church discipline....
